Desktop Celtx version 2.9.5 – First Impressions

March 3, 2012

For starters, you don’t need to throw out your Mastering Celtx book — in fact, Mastering Celtx remains as useful as ever.

In order to download the brand new version of Celtx, you’ll need to set up an account with This will bring you into Celtx’s new “cloud space,” which will be superceding Celtx Studios. Once you’re into Celtx, you’ll be able to download the new version (2.9.5), which proceeds like any typical software download.

Run the installer, and you’ll soon have the new version up and running.

You’ll then see that Celtx still looks like Celtx, and the features you’re used to are intact and essentially the same.

For those of you brand new to Celtx (or for those of you who may only have worked with Celtx’s script editor), Mastering Celtx will still be essential to mastering its key features and learning how to fully exploit and integrate all it has to offer.

The big change is the addition of a Services icon in the toolbar. Incredibly, this brings the previously by-subscription-only studio services (which included sharing, versioning and project management) to everyone — for free!

Don’t ask me to explain the business model, but this is an exciting development, making collaboration even easier. This will certainly be attractive to the educational sphere as well: now you can use Celtx’s collaborative features for a course and not worry if your institution will reimburse you for the monthly subscription.

A future post will look further into Celtx’s cloud services — and additional posts will explore the new Celtx Script for Android, and how the new cloud services affect mobile apps Celtx Script and Celtx Shots. Nice work, Celtx!

  1. Wonderful blog! I found it while surfing around on Yahoo News.

Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News?
I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Thank you

    • No tips; have not actively pursued Yahoo News listing … apparently an oversight!

  2. Good day! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was
wondering which blog platform are you using for this site?
I’m getting sick and tired of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

    • Weirdly enough, it’s Have not had any issues with hackers; maybe we’re just lucky. But good luck on the platform search!
